Charville Primary School - Art

The Art Curriculum
Embedded in our Arts curriculum we offer a rich and engaging range of learning activities.  Starting with EYFS, children are immersed in a variety of sensory experiences such as drawing, art, imaginary worlds, music and singing.  Children are free to express themselves and encouraged to pursue activities that interest them and develop skills.  In addition we also offer a number of extra-curricular opportunities in the Arts which are enthusiastically taken up by children across the school.

In KS1 and KS2 children experience the Arts as separate and cross curricular learning experiences.  All children take part in a music lesson each week, taught by a specialist teacher.  Children practise and enhance their art and design skills through lessons using different media; learning about art and craft techniques and building an understanding and appreciation of the world of artists and designers.  For Drama and Dance children have regular opportunities to explore these through the curriculum and they use dramatic techniques in Literacy and other subjects e.g. paintings of settings and story boxes in Literacy, making religious artefacts in RE.  Children also perform Dance in class assemblies and school productions e.g. the annual Year 6 musical.  Any child that wants to participate is guaranteed a role in their chosen area, be it performing, back stage, sound and lighting or designing and making the scenery.
