History

Intent for History:

At Charville our vision of History is for children to understand how events in the past have influenced our lives today and be able to investigate past events through the use of historical enquiry skills and work chronologically.  We aim to develop children’s accurate and fair historical understanding of the world, our country, culture and local community.  Pupils consider how the past influences the present, what past societies were like, how these societies organised their politics, and what beliefs and cultures influenced people’s actions. Using this historical knowledge, pupils are able to develop positive choices, values and attitudes as they take their place in society.  They see the diversity of human experience, and understand more about themselves as individuals and members of the community. Marcus Garvey is quoted as saying that ‘A people without knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots’.
